The world’s largest cotton yarn importing country has cut its imports sharply

The world’s largest cotton yarn importing country has cut its imports sharply, and most of the cotton yarn is exported to the world’s largest cotton yarn exporter. What do you think?

Reduced demand for cotton yarn in China also reflects a slowdown in global apparel orders.

An interesting scene has emerged in the global textile market. China, the world’s largest importer of cotton yarn, slashed its imports and eventually exported cotton yarn to India, the world’s largest exporter of cotton yarn.

The U.S. ban and zero-coronavirus restrictions on cotton from Xinjiang, as well as supply chain disruptions, also impacted Chinese cotton imports. China’s cotton yarn imports fell by the equivalent of 3.5 million bales of lint-spun yarn.

China imports yarn from India, Pakistan, Vietnam and Uzbekistan as the domestic spinning industry cannot meet demand. China’s cotton yarn imports this year were the lowest in nearly a decade, and the sudden slowdown in yarn imports has alarmed its export partners, who are scrambling to tap other cotton yarn markets.

China’s cotton yarn imports fell to $2.8 billion in the first nine months of the year, compared with $4.3 billion in the same period last year. That equates to a 33.2 percent drop, according to Chinese customs data.

Reduced demand for cotton yarn in China also reflects a slowdown in global apparel orders. China remains the world’s largest apparel producer and exporter, accounting for more than 30 percent of the global apparel market. Yarn usage in other major textile economies was also low due to lower apparel orders. This has created an oversupply of yarn, and many cotton yarn producers are forced to dispose of stocked yarn at prices below production costs.
